About this job

This contract role asks a forensic firearms specialist to check how well AI systems answer casework-style questions about firearm and toolmark examination. The work involves judging whether model answers on microscopic comparison, firing pin and breech face impressions, and rifling are accurate and follow laboratory practice, then writing up feedback. It suits examiners who know forensic ballistics well, and no prior AI experience is needed.

What you'll do

  • Review AI-generated answers to firearm and toolmark examination test cases.
  • Assess firing pin and breech face impression analyses against forensic laboratory methods.
  • Check the interpretation of rifling characteristics and other ballistic evidence in model outputs.
  • Write feedback and recommendations on how to improve the AI responses.
